ABOUT THE DOMAIN
The Lafite vineyard has a history deeply rooted in time. Jacques de Ségur played an essential role in the development of the vineyard at the twilight of the 17th century, thus establishing the quality of the wine. His son Alexandre broadened the horizons of Chateau Lafite Rothschild by uniting his destiny with the heiress of Latour in 1695. From this union, Nicolas-Alexandre emerged, raising the wine to fame both in Versailles and in England at the beginning of the 18th century. century.
Following the death of Nicolas-Alexandre, the estate changed hands several times, including a public sale after the Revolution. Nevertheless, under the vigilance of the stewards, notably the family of Joseph Goudal, the quality remained at the top. This resulted in the distinction of 1er cru in 1855 for Château Lafite.
In 1868, Baron James de Rothschild acquired Lafite at another auction, and since then it has remained in Rothschild hands. The wine’s unrivaled quality is attributed to a blend of remarkable terroir, mature vines, moderate yield and rigorous selection. The period 1960-1970 saw a slight decline in quality due to less precise management of the estate and winemaking.

ABOUT THE CUVÉE
From 1975, under the enlightened leadership of Eric de Rothschild and now with the leadership of his daughter Saskia since 2017, the castle has returned to its original excellence, arousing the admiration of global connoisseurs. The main wine of Lafite is perhaps not the most ostentatious of the Pauillacs, but it is its remarkable delicacy, which reveals itself after 15 to 30 years in the cellar, which sets it apart. Renowned for its aromatic richness, a nuance of cedar sets it apart, a trait that appeals to enthusiasts. Exceptional vintages of Lafite seem to have the ability to transcend time, remaining eternally young.
