ABOUT THE DOMAIN
In 1853, the castle saw the arrival of Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild, but it was really in 1922, under the leadership of Baron Philippe de Rothschild, that the reputation of “Mouton” lit up. At a young age, full of innovative visions, he decided to make the wine shine, positively impacting the reputation of Bordeaux wine. In 1924, to counter the questionable practices of Bordeaux merchants, he introduced the concept of “bottling entirely at the estate”. 1945 marked a turning point with a label adorned with a “V” for Victory, the start of a tradition of art on labels with renowned artists each year. 1973 saw Mouton officially promoted to Premier Grand Cru Classé de Bordeaux, a first since the 1855 classification, thanks to the efforts of Baron Philippe. After his death in 1988, his daughter Philippine took over, perpetuating his father’s vision until his death in 2014. The estate is today managed by his three children: Camille, Philippe and Julien de Rothschild.

ABOUT THE CUVÉE
The prestigious wine of Château Mouton-Rothschild comes from the award-winning vineyards of the “Plateau de Mouton”, among the 90ha of the estate. These vines draw their essence from deep gravel, with Cabernet Sauvignon dominating the blend, often 80% depending on the year, supplemented by Merlot and touches of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
The harvests are meticulously manual, each grain being selected in the vineyard then in the cellar. These grapes, once sorted, are vinified in vats adapted to each plot of the estate.
Its aging, for approximately 20 months, respects the Médoc tradition, taking place entirely in new barrels, using topping and fining with egg white to ensure perfect stability.
Many vintages are distinguished by their richness, opulence and depth, with an aromatic bouquet oscillating between blackcurrant, roasted coffee, mint and delicate leather.
A specificity of Château Mouton-Rothschild is its annual collaboration with an artist for a unique label. Artists such as Chagall, Braque, Picasso, Dali, Francis Bacon and even Prince Charles of England have left their mark.
